For the past nine years, murals have been included in the Portland City sign code.
Two years ago, due to a lawsuit and a complicated legislative process, the City created an exemption from this code in the form of RACC's Public Art Murals program. In May 2007, Judge Marcus issued his latest opinion on the case- murals are different from signs!
Now, the Portland City Council, the City Attorney, and Portland city planners are considering drafting a new mural code separate from the existing sign code. Describing your own mural projects and your thoughts about murals will help our city's employees understand what is important to artists, and instruct them on how to approach writing this new mural code.
So, help City Hall with these mural matters. Take some time to consider the enormous significance of your mural/s and respond to these questions. You may remain anonymous, or include your name and contact information, if you like.
Thank you in advance.
